Is Hail Damaged Covered by my Property Insurance?
Hail is common in Florida, especially during severe summer storms. In fact, Florida actually has a hail season, running from March to July. Hail has reached up to 4.5 inches in the state, and can cause more than just cosmetic damage. Roofs can end up with damaged tiles or shingles and windows can end up broken, both of which may result in interior damage from water entering the home.
Most homeowners’ insurance policies cover property damage that results from hail. Occasionally, policies will contain a “hail deductible” that must be paid prior to coverage. Additionally, policies may also contain a cap on damages caused by hail. It is crucial to read your policy and ensure there is sufficient coverage to protect your home in the event hail damage occurs.
Even with evidence of hail damage to property, insurance companies may still be hesitant to pay the claim in its entirety, or they may outright deny the claim. If your property has experienced hail damage and your insurance company is offering underpayment or outright denying the claim, contact our office today for a consultation.
