What Is Bad Faith When It Comes to Insurance Companies?
When in a dispute with your insurance carrier regarding a coverage determination, you may hear or see the term “bad faith” tossed around.
Bad faith is typically raised where an insurance company receives a property damage claim and fails to settle the claim where they could and should have, or where the insurance company issues a payment but fails to accompany the payment with a statement explaining the coverage in which the payments are issued under.
Some signs an insurance company is acting in bad faith that you should be aware of include failing to adequately communicate or respond to your inquiries or failing to adequately investigate the claim.
