Vandalism, Burglary, and Property Insurance: Am I Covered?
Burglary or vandalism can cause major property damage. After you have contacted law enforcement to make a report, you may be wondering how you can recover your damaged or stolen property.
Most property insurance policies cover damage caused by vandalism or burglary. After contacting law enforcement, you should contact your insurance company as soon as possible to file a claim. Providing your insurance company with a detailed list of all items that were damaged as a result of the crime may further assist your claim. Once law enforcement has completed their report, you should also supplement your insurance claim with their report to provide your insurance company with additional details.
However, even with proof of damaged or stolen property, insurance companies may still attempt to deny, partially deny, delay, or underpay your vandalism or burglary claim. If your insurance company is denying, partially denying, delaying, or underpaying your claim, it may be time to contact an attorney. Contact our office today for a consultation.
