Hurricane Ian: The Most Expensive Hurricane to Hit Florida
Hurricane Ian devastated the southwestern coast of Florida and continued to cause flooding as it made its way across the state, causing major damages as far northeast as Daytona Beach.
The National Hurricane Center officially released its report of Hurricane Ian, and announced the storm caused an estimated $109 billion in damages in Florida. Comparatively, Hurricane Andrew caused about $54 billion in damages in Florida, adjusted for inflation, meaning Hurricane Ian caused double the cost of damages to the state, likely due to its intense storm surge and statewide flooding.
It is important to remember as we head into the 2023 Hurricane Season that storm surge and flooding are some of the most dangerous aspects of hurricanes. Prepare for storm season early and have an emergency plan.
