How Long do I Have to Report a Hurricane or Tropical Storm Claim?
Hurricane or tropical storm damage is not always obvious and can take some time to surface before it’s noticed by homeowners.
In Florida, homeowners have up to two years from the date the hurricane made landfall to report the damage to their insurance carrier. If the damage was caused by a tropical storm, homeowners have up to two years from the date the tropical storm was reported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (“NOAA”).
Despite being permitted to report damages for up to two years after the storm, insurance companies will often delay their coverage determination of homeowners’ damages, deny coverage for late reporting, or underpay the damages.
